In this day in age, more studios are simply remaking classic horror movies than doing the next best thing: making sequels. At this point, I’d rather see another sequel to A NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. than a freakin’ remake of the original–which is why I’m diggin’ where Tony Scott is headed with his 1983 vampire flick THE HUNGER.
After having a chat with ComingSoon.net, it appears as though Scott is working on a sequel to THE HUNGER–and not a remake. I’m completely shocked. But why don’t we hear what Scott had to say: I’m not going to tell you how we’re doing it, but I’m controlling it and it’s gone to the next level. It’s not a reinvention or reinterpretation, it starts in New York and it ends up in Sao Paulo, so it’s a very different movie, but it springboards off the original.
Maybe this is in retaliation of the recent vampire craze that is TWILIGHT, by making a sequel to hardcore vampire flick that’s over 25 years old. It may be just me, but I find something comforting in that.
