Scream (1996) Revisited – Horror Movie Review

A new Scream movie will be reaching theatres next week, on January 14th, so this seemed like the perfect time to take a look back at the original Scream (watch it HERE) with an episode of our video series Deconstructing… (released under the “Revisited” banner that now covers many of the shows on our JoBlo Horror Originals YouTube channel). If you’re up for digging deep into the first Scream before the fifth one is released, check out the video embedded above!

Directed by the legendary Wes Craven from a screenplay by Kevin Williamson, Scream has the following synopsis:

Wes Craven re-invented and revitalised the slasher-horror genre with this modern horror classic, which manages to be funny, clever and scary, as a fright-masked knife maniac stalks high-school students in middle-class suburbia. Craven is happy to provide both tension and self-parody as the body count mounts – but the victims aren’t always the ones you’d expect.

The film stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Jamie Kennedy, Skeet Ulrich, Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, W. Earl Brown, Drew Barrymore, Joseph Whipp, and Henry Winkler.

Deconstructing… is a monthly web series in which

we choose one of your favorite horror movies and take it apart piece by piece (lovingly, of course) to see what makes it a classic. Each episode examines the origins, legacy and mysteries behind our beloved genre’s most iconic titles… but we play fast and loose with the rules, so expect the unexpected!

The show is Written, Edited, and Narrated by Gregory Burkart, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.

A few of the previous episodes of Deconstructing… can be seen below. To see more episodes, and to check out our other shows, head over to the JoBlo Horror Originals YouTube channel – and subscribe while you’re there!
