Having been released to VOD earlier this year by IFC Midnight, Adam MacDonald's BACKCOUNTRY and John McNaughton's THE HARVEST are now making their ways to Blu-ray and DVD thanks to Scream Factory, who have set a September 1st release date for both films.
Starring Missy Peregrym, Jeff Roop, Eric Balfour, and Nicholas Campbell, BACKCOUNTRY tells the story of
A late twenty-something couple who find themselves facing off against deadly elements on a romantic getaway in the wilderness.

THE HARVEST marks HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER director McNaughton's first work in the genre since a 2006 episode of the MASTERS OF HORROR series, and is his first non-television work since the 2001 film SPEAKING OF SEX. The movie stars Michael Shannon, Samantha Morton, Peter Fonda, Charlie Tahan, and Natasha Callis, and has the following synopsis:
Young Andy lives a sheltered existence. Having spent most of his life confined to bed due to illness, his parents keep a watchful eye over all aspects of his life. His MD mother is cold and clinical, while his former nurse father is more compassionate. When a young girl moves into the neighborhood, Andy gets his first friend, a fact neither of his parents seem happy about.

Our own JimmyO called BACKCOUNTRY "an impressively intense viewing experience", and his description of the film as "OPEN WATER with bears" is enough to get me to put it on my Must Watch list.
Chris Bumbray felt THE HARVEST was a mixed bag, but did praise most of the performances. The fact that it's a McNaughton joint alone will earn it a viewing from me.
