Screenwriter talks Midnight Meat Train 2!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Jeff Buehler is quite the go-to horror movie screenwriter. First, the man brought us the script for THE PRODIGY starring Taylor Schilling and Jackson Robert Scott and then PET SEMATARY with Jason Clarke and John Lithgow. The man has the remake of JACOB'S LADDER coming sometime in the future, but today we're here because the man just addressed the possibility of penning another entry in Clive Barker's MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN series.

Buhler revealed:

I have not had direct conversations about Midnight Meat Train, although I love that world. And I think we never really got a good dose of what the fathers were all about, the way it ends in the film with the train conductor explaining the world of the fathers doesn't get all the way into the mythology in the story, with the fathers and the maker and the history of this society under New York City, and how important it is to keep the ecosystem of New York City healthy. The symbiotic relationship that these monsters have with the city itself.

He then added:

So I think there's always opportunities, but that's a world that I would love to spend more time in

For those of you guys out there that may have somehow missed the flick, the plot rundown goes a little something like this:

When struggling photographer Leon Kaufman (Bradley Cooper) meets the owner of a prominent art gallery, he sees a chance for the success that has, so far, eluded him. Determined to show the darker side of humanity for his debut showing, Leon crosses paths with Mahogany (Vinnie Jones) a serial killer who preys on late-night subway commuters. His fascination with Mahogany pulls him — and his lover (Leslie Bibb) — deep into an evil abyss.

MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN was directed by Ryuhei Kitamura (DOWNRANGE) from a screenplay written by Jeff Buhler based on the short story by Clive Barker. Barker produced the film along with Jorge Saralegui, Eric Reid, Richard Wright, Tom Rosenberg, and Gary Lucchesi. It starred Bradley Cooper, Leslie Bibb, Brooke Shields, Roger Bart, Ted Raimi, and Vinnie Jones. If you don't already own the movie on Blu-ray, you can snag a copy HERE.
