I was very interested in See for Me, a home invasion thriller from director Randall Okita (The Lockpicker) in the build-up to its theatrical and VOD release back in January – and once I saw the movie I was not disappointed. See for Me is definitely a movie I would add to my collection, so I’m glad to hear that RLJE Films is bringing it to DVD and Blu-ray on June 28th. Copies are available for pre-order at THIS LINK.

Scripted by Adam Yorke and Tommy Gushue, earning their first feature writing credits, See for Me stars prolific voice actor Skyler Davenport in their first on-screen lead role, prolific character actor Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy), and Smallville‘s Laura Vandervoort. The story follows

blind teenager Sophie, who is house-sitting at a secluded mansion which comes under attack from thieves seeking a hidden safe. Her only means of defense is a phone app called See For Me which connects her to Kelly, a veteran and volunteer across the country who spends her days playing first-person shooter games online and who now must see on Sophie’s behalf.

Davenport plays Sophie, and truly is visually impaired. A See for Me press release provides more information on Davenport:

Skyler Davenport is a visually impaired actor on the spectrum. (Born Kathrine Davenport, Skyler identifies as non-binary and changed their legal name after having ‘top’ surgery, as it is referred to in the LGBTQ community.) Skyler suffered neurological vision loss due in part to a rare condition caused by genetic mutation known as hemiplegic migraines, which mimic a stroke and affect approximately 0.01% of the population. After one of these attacks morphed into a stroke in 2012, Skyler suffered permanent vision loss and became legally blind. Spending many years in hospitals and specialist offices as they re-learned to do daily activities, Skyler eventually left western medicine behind after being told to “learn braille and get a live-in assistant”. They decided to continue to pursue a childhood dream of acting despite these new obstacles, hoping to inspire others with disabilities along the way. Coming from a massive background in voice-over for video games and cartoons such as “Final Fantasy,” “Pokemon,” and many others, the transition to screen has been a harmonious one.

Skyler looks forward to working on projects that bring empowering messages to the public, and lovingly changing outdated narratives along the way.

Also in the cast are Jessica Parker Kennedy (The Flash), Joe Pingue (Godless), Pascal Langdale (Killjoys), and George Tchortov (Goon).

See for Me is a Wildling Pictures production, produced by Matt Code and Kristy Neville. David Di Brina serves as executive producer. The film was made with the participation of Telefilm Canada and Ontario Creates.
