See Michael Fassbender like you have never seen him before in the first clip from Frank

It has been a year since we last heard about Leonard Abrahamson‘s (WHAT RICHARD DID) comedy FRANK starring Michael Fassbender, Domhnall Gleeson, Scoot McNairy, and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Based on the true story of Chris Sievey who performed as Frank Sidebottom, FRANK is premiering at the Sundance Film Festival this weekend and the first clip has made it’s way online.

Fassbender has not done many comedies and this is a welcome change of pace for the talented actor, even if you don’t see his face in the movie. Domhnall Gleeson has been racking up the roles recently with ABOUT TIME, DREDD, and ANNA KARENINA and looks pretty good here too. Per usual, Maggie Gyllenhaal is flawless.

A comedy about a young wannabe musician named Jon who discovers that he’s bitten off a bit more than he can chew when he joins an eccentric pop band led by the mysterious and enigmatic Frank.

For some reason, I get a very Tyler Durden vibe off of Fassbender’s performance, but FRANK smacks of bizarre, cultish behavior. In other words, it looks like the perfect indie movie.

FRANK has no wide release but expect it to get picked up after Sundance concludes at the end of the month.
