Let me just start off by saying that I could not find ANY info at all on SEER. It’s like it popped out of nowhere. I hope it doesn’t stay this way though, because from the sound of it, SEER is going to be one badass flick! The closest I could get to a plot from the article over at Fangoria is this:
“It’s a play inside a house with a monster outside—that’s basically it. Then there are a number of twists that get us outside the house to another location. The setting is an Irish farmhouse surrounded by ramshackle outhouses, just short of dereliction. Several people wake up inside the house with no memory of who they are, where they are. The only reason they know their names is that they all have medical bracelets on their arms with their names on them—well, they assume it’s their names. The main character, Mary, wakes up first, and is then introduced to the other characters, who find themselves in different rooms,” Courtney continues. “She’s a stronger person: She has special powers, a second psyche. No one knows why or what her powers relate to. Mary then passes over her visions to the others in the house, and they suffer flashbacks and witness terrible things, which they then try to explain to the others. There’s a lurking presence in the yard that is established as the film goes on. The characters see it, and that’s why they can’t leave: They’re afraid that they will be ripped apart. Meanwhile, the house develops a character of its own, and its occupants are taken out one by one.”
So that seems like the just of the plot. The film is currently filming in Ireland and is being directed by Eric Courtney. It was written by Robbie Robinson and is being produced by Jim Cahill and Ed King (DEAD MEAT). Apparently both Courtney and Robinson are big time horror junkies, so that is a good sign. Courtney had this to say about the film:
“It’s time for a new movie—the marketplace is exhausted, saturated with zombie flicks, cheap monster films and torture porno,” he explains. “The genre needs something new and fresh with a psychological approach,” he continues, “as opposed to the obvious gore and tits and arse. This is something we aimed to achieve: a film where the audience cares about the characters and is sucked into the story. It’s a new horror movie for a new horror audience.”
Sounds awesome, no? So he’s basically making a psychological monster movie with awesome character development. If he nails it, this one is definately going to be one to watch. The film is going to be gory too, with a creature 15 ft tall with gigantic claws, how can it not be? Personally, I’m interested in the psychological bit. This one seems to be pulling stuff from various flicks, let’s hope it comes together nicely. SEER is going to wrap up filming in December and will hit the film festivals in early ’08. We’ll definately keep you updated with any news on SEER. Meanwhile, check out a few stills and behind the scenes pics above and below.
