Seth Rogen is very much against a Freaks and Geeks reboot

Seth Rogen says beloved cult classic Freaks and Geeks should never get a reboot, as nobody would be dumb enough to “f*ck with that.”

Freaks and Geeks reboot

Reboots may be all the rage, but one show that is likely never going to get another shot at the small screen is cult classic Freaks and Geeks, as co-star Seth Rogen is adamant that it shouldn’t be touched.

Speaking with People, Seth Rogen said of a potential Freaks and Geeks reboot, “I don’t think anyone would do it…It’s so rare that you do something in your career that is actually just viewed as good.” He added, “I know enough now not to f*ck with that, to just let it be good and not try to go revisit it…And just let it exist.”

As it exists, Freaks and Geeks lives on in just 18 episodes. But with its unique perspective on high school dynamics, killer soundtrack and incredible ensemble cast (Rogen, Linda Cardellini, James Franco, Jason Segel, Busy Philipps, John Francis Daley, Samm Levine, Martin Starr), it has garnered a massive cult following. Sure, we would have liked to have had more episodes during the initial run, but a Freaks and Geeks reboot is an unreasonable request. Worst case, just watch Judd Apatow’s college-set Undeclared, itself with a loyal fanbase and just 17 episodes. Freaks and Geeks alumni Rogen, Segel, Philipps, and more also showed up on Undeclared.

When Rogen says nobody would do a Freaks and Geeks reboot, he’s not kidding. Even those with a little more authority, like series producer Judd Apatow and creator Paul Feig, have shunned this. Hell, they weren’t even down to add another season. Apatow previously said, “When the show was canceled, there was an offer from MTV to continue making the show at a much lower budget. And we all decided we didn’t want to do a weaker version of the show.” Feig was also fine with ending the show after one season, saying, “I mean, you say it looked like a movie, that’s really how we treated it. So, we were ready to drop at the end of those 18 episodes.”
