Best known for playing the fan favorite role of Han in the Fast and Furious franchise, Sung Kang has now made his feature directorial debut with the ’90s-set creature feature Shaky Shivers, which is being presented to potential distributors at the American Film Market. Shot over the course of five weeks at a closed down girl scout camp back in 2020, Shaky Shivers tells the story of two ice cream shop employees stranded at an abandoned camp, where a book of magical spells puts them in contact with a number of classic movie creatures.

Brooke Markham (Friend Request) and VyVy Nguyen (Young Sheldon) star as the ice cream shop employees and are joined in the cast by Jimmy Bellinger (Blockers), Erin Daniels (House of 1000 Corpses), Skyler Day (Parenthood), and Herschel Sparber (Lucky Stiff).

Shaky Shivers was scripted by Aaron Strongoni and Andrew McAllister, who were inspired to write a creature feature script after making a documentary about special effects artist Gabriel Bartalos, who ended up working on the film. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Kang said he decided to make this movie as his first directing project because, “I didn’t want to do something really heavy. I think a lot of people expected, because of my association to these big blockbuster action movies, that I would do some action film.

Bartalos’s many credits include Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Frankenhooker, the Basket Case sequels, and most of the Leprechaun movies.

Kang produced Shaky Shivers through his company Raison D’etre, alongside Luci Kim of Luka Productions and Jean Shim of Aerie On Elms. Nina Yang Bongiovi of AUM served as executive producer.

Here’s hoping that Shaky Shivers will land a good distribution deal quickly, because I’m really looking forward to seeing this one. Are you interested in Shaky Shivers? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
