Sick Quarantine

Yes, by now I’m sure we all know of the upcoming fright flick QUARANTINE and that it’s a remake of the Spanish shocker [REC]. A look at its first poster was presented by Jared P. here. The concept for QUARANTINE at first sounded pretty nifty (the horrific happenings inside a sealed off apartment complex are caught and shown all through a news camera), but after BLAIR WITCH, CLOVERFIELD, and DIARY OF THE DEAD, that concept is starting to feel a little tired.

However, just because an idea is somewhat played out, doesn’t mean it still can’t be executed with flair and creativity to an entertaining effect. And from the look of the FX shots from the flick above and below (courtesy of Fango), I’m feeling fairly confident in QUARANTINE’s ability to deliver. Just look at that menacing, red-eyed beeyach! Her creepy look comes to us from FX artist Robert Hall (below) who promises a nice counter agent to the recent string of PG-13 shitfests. “We did some pretty disturbing stuff in QUARANTINE,” he says, “and after doing a bunch of comedies and PG-13 nonsense, I can’t wait to sit in a theater and watch folks squirm.”

I love how he calls his other, less gory jobs nonsense. Which means it might actually make sense to check out QUARANTINE when it opens this October 17th. Having Jennifer Carpenter (THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE) as its star doesn’t hurt either.
