Joel Silver, officially licensed Friend of the Wachowskis, talked to Empire Magazine about his upcoming adaptation of SPEED RACER with the aforementioned recluse directors. Silver wouldn’t talk plot specifics but did say, “It’s the story of Speed Racer, but in a way that you’ve never seen anything like that before in your life. The Wachowskis brought a tremendous sense of wonder and magic to that story. They just had a different way of seeing the story, in the way they do on everything they do.” So it’s the same…but different. How different? Silver offers up this interesting little nugget: no cars. Whotothewhatnow? Yeah, you read that right. “I don’t know if we’ll even use any cars,” says Silver. So …unicycle racing? Actually Silver was likely referring to the fancy CGI process the Wachowskis will use that will allow them to film the racing sequences without an actual car. Fancy… SPEED RACER is expected to begin shooting next year in Germany.
