David Slade is a busy motherf*cker all of a sudden. Only a week after he signed to direct ECLIPSE (a.k.a. TWILIGHT Part III), Slade has found his follow-up project. And it’s a doozy.
The film is called COLD SKIN. Based on a Spanish best-seller of the same name, Slade will direct using a screenplay written by Jesus Olmo (co-writer of 28 WEEKS LATER). The project will once again bring Slade to a freezing-cold climate, but I dare say this sounds like it makes 30 DAYS OF NIGHT appear rather tame.
Check out this massively f*cked up synopsis, courtesy of Amazon: An unnamed European of unspecified nationality is hired to spend an unspecified mid-20th-century year logging wind conditions on a tiny Antarctic island. Anticipating solitude, the bookish young man soon discovers that he has a neighbor—the pathologically reclusive Gruner—and that each night, the island is overrun by humanoid killer amphibians. He and brutish Gruner—who has tamed a “toad” of his own—join forces, killing monsters by night and fornicating with Gruner’s pet by day. Inspired by the creature’s ability to laugh and cry—to say nothing of her perky breasts, knack for housework and wordless submissiveness—the narrator begins to think of the cold-blooded creatures as human.
Dunno about you, but when I got to the part where they start fornicating with the “pet” I was… uh… I still don’t even know what to think. Sounds pretty f*ckin’ wild though, especially considering Slade is going to tackle this twisted material after he makes what I assume will be a blockbuster… But maybe a movie about a guy who has sex with a half-human, half-amphibian is just what a man needs to wash all that emo chick-lit out of his clothes.
