Here’s a story of a little contest that’s certainly paying off for the winners. Bobby Darby and Nathan Brookes (above), who rocked the 2007 Slamdance Horror Screenplay Competition, have just sold their winning screenplay SLAUGHTER to Maverick Red, a division of Angel Baby Entertainment and Maverick Films! Now how cool is that?!?
Much like SCREAM was to slashers, SLAUGHTER is a homage to cult Japanese horror flicks (though the details are still vague), and while it sounds like a concept that may be coming a little too early, I’d say it’s just the change of pace we’re looking for!
Co-founder of Slamdance Peter Baxter had this to say on the new deal: This industry is highly competitive, and it’s necessary for our organization to seek new production avenues for aspiring writers. I’m glad someone out there knows that once they’ve remade all the movies in the world, they’ll have to come up with some original ideas of their own- and that means fresh writers. Good shite!
No word on who the director will be, or the perspective release date, but you know where you’ll find it when it’s announced (i.e., here!).
