Sleepaway Camp 3 (1989) – WTF Happened to This Horror Movie?

Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers and Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland were filmed back-to-back and released one year apart, but while Sleepaway Camp II is one of the most popular slasher comedies ever made, Sleepaway Camp III (watch it HERE) doesn’t work as well… And in the new episode of our video series WTF Happened to This Horror Movie?, we’re aiming to figure out why.

Just like the second film, Sleepaway Camp III was directed by Michael A. Simpson from a script written by Fritz Gordon. It has the following synopsis:

Psychotic Angela is itching to do what she does best: slaughter dozens of teenage campers. As luck would have it, the previous site of her murders has been renamed and converted into an experimental summer camp meant to bring together privileged and lower-class teens. On the day the youths are boarding the buses to camp, Angela runs over a potential camper with a garbage truck and assumes her identity. Once she has infiltrated the camp, the real terror begins.

Pamela Springsteen stars as Angela and is joined in the cast by Tracy Griffith, Mark Oliver, Michael J. Pollard, Kim Wall, Daryl Wilcher, Sandra Dorsey, Cliff Brand, Haynes Brook, Kyle Holman, Jill Terashita, Kashina Kessler, Randi Layne, Chung Yen Tsay, Jarret Beal, Sonya Maddox, and Stacie Lambert.

This is what the WTF Happened to This Horror Movie series is all about:

Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster, but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: WTF Happened To This Horror Movie?

The Sleepaway Camp III episode of WTF Happened to This Horror Movie was Written by Bryan Wolford, Edited by Zack Burkett, Narrated by Jason Hewlett, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
