Zack Snyder, he who brought us the ass kickin’ remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD, and the upcoming speemfest known as 300, has a new project already lined up for when he’s done with the comic book adaptation WATCHMEN. It’s called SUCKER PUNCH, and it sounds like one fun ride!
Sold as an action-fantasy, PUNCH is aiming to be the mother of all trip-fests- check out the synopsis: Set in the 1950’s, “Punch” follows a girl who is confined to a mental institution by her evil stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. While there, she imagines an alternative reality to hide her from the pain, and in that world, she begins planning her escape, needing to steal five objects to help get her out before she is deflowered by a vile man.
An action movie set in some chick’s imagination? From Zack Snyder? Count me in! Snyder actually had some pretty funny stuff to say about the project, which gives hope to all those out there who are yearning for something different.
“A while ago I had written a script for myself and there was a sequence in it that made me think, ‘How can I make a film that can have action sequences in it that aren’t limited by the physical realities that normal people are limited by, but still have the story make sense so it’s not, and I don’t mean to be mean, like a bullsh*t thing like “Ultraviolet” or something like that?’ ”
At least we know what NOT to expect! The project is already looking pretty awesome, but it’ll likely be a couple years before it sees the light of day, as WATCHMEN is currently gearing up for production now, with a Summer 2008 release date in mind. And don’t forget to check out 300 in theaters this Friday, as it dines in hell nationwide.
