Hold onto your rings and get ready to go fast all over again because Netflix is thought to be developing a new animated series featuring Sega's iconic Blue Blur.

Where's the evidence, you ask? Well, Netflix earlier tweeted the announcement but has since removed the tweet. Thankfully, a screenshot of the announcement had already been archived, proving once again that the internet never truly forgets. For posterity's sake, the tweet read: "Rings? Check. Sneakers? Check. Speed? SONIC. SEGA's legendary video game icon Sonic the Hedgehog races onto Netflix in a new 3D animated series from @SEGA, @WildBrainHQ and @ManOfActionEnt premiering in 2022."

It's entirely possible that the tweet was meant to go live during The Game Awards, which are happening later this evening. Meanwhile, a sequel to Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog, starring Jim Carrey, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, is expected to race into theaters on April 8, 2022. For the moment, we've no idea if Netflix's alleged animated series will tie into the film series or be presented as its own animated adventure. Either way, it looks as if Sonic fans can look forward to Sega's legendary speedster becoming a part of the Netflix family sometime down the line.

What do you think of this news? Are you ready to lace-up your Speed Shoes and join Sonic and his pals for a Netflix animated series? My thoughts are so long as Amy and Big the Cat are a part of the mix I'll definitely check it out. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
