The Equalizer Antoine Fuqua Denzel Washington

It took a bit longer than many expected, but yesterday at CinemaCon, Sony announced THE EQUALIZER 2 by revealing the planned film's logo. The studio didn't share any details (cast, release date, etc.), but Denzel Washington is expected to reprise his role as former black ops commando Robert McCall.

Director Antoine Fuqua's adaptation of the CBS crime series of the same name opened to $34 million in September, and went on to gross over $190 million worldwide against a $55 million budget. After a very successful test screening, Sony hired Richard Wenk (who also wrote the first movie) in February of last year to pen the sequel.

No word on if Antoine Fuqua will helm the sequel, but he is teaming up again with his THE EQUALIZER actor; Denzel Washington will star alongside Chris Pratt and Ethan Hawke (and possibly Vincent D'Onofrio) in Fuqua's THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN remake.

Are you down for another THE EQUALIZER?
