Another day, another SPIDER-MAN rumor…
The guys over at Quiet Earth have heard from an industry insider that Nimrod Antal is top pick for Sony and Sam Raimi to direct the SPIDER-MAN reboot.
Why the interest in this particular director? This is what the site offers up:
“Sam Raimi met Nimrod on the Sony lot before his first US film, Vacancy. They clicked, so Sam hired him to direct Armored. Now, Predators is getting some great word-of-mouth around tinsel-town. Warners loves it and now Sam Raimi and Sony want the director back at the studio to helm Spiderman.”
This news contradicts the news that Deadline Hollywood put out saying that Marc Webb was Sony’s top pick for the film.
While I enjoy Webb’s video work, as well as 500 DAYS OF SUMMER, picturing him as director for Spidey seems like an odd pairing. He could definitely handle the perspective of the Peter & MJ relationship, so I could see why Sony might be interested. However, Antal can handle the action sequences. I guess we’ll just have to sit back and see who they choose. You never know, in the end neither of these directors may get the gig.
