I'm still a little sketchy as to why we need a remake of JUMANJI, but it appears that we're getting one whether we like it or not. Admittedly, it's been quite some time since I last watched JUMANJI, but I recall it being a fairly fun family film fueled by Robin Williams' comedic shenanigans. Without Williams, Sony's upcoming remake will have to up its game considerably. We've heard little about the remake since it was announced, but today's news from Deadline indicates that the project will be moving forward quickly.
The outlet reports that Sony has selected Jake Kasdan (BAD TEACHER) to direct the JUMANJI remake from a script by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. As the remake's release date is quickly approaching (Christmas 2016), Kasdan is going to have to get a move on if Sony still has their heart set on that date. Robin Williams' JUMANJI was based upon the book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg and Sony's remake is being described as a "fresh take" on the book, whatever that means. If I can say anything good about this project, it's that the CG animals will probably be of higher quality. Possibly? Maybe? Bah.

While exploring an old mansion, the youngsters find a curious, jungle-themed game called Jumanji in the attic. If they win Jumanji, the kids can free Alan for good — but that means braving giant bugs, ill-mannered monkeys and even stampeding rhinos!
JUMANJI is set for a December 25, 2016 release.
