Sorry Game of Thrones fans: Ed Sheeran probably wasn’t burnt by a dragon

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

I remember vaguely how big of a deal it was when singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran was cast in GAME OF THRONES, mainly because I was thinking, "Who the fuck is Ed Sheeran?" Admittedly, that says more about me than anything else, but when the episode with his cameo as a Lannister footman finally aired, that was all anyone on social media could talk about! I mean, he had, what, two lines? Hardly enough to ruin GAME OF THRONES or anything!

But some had hoped maybe he died in that Loot Train attack, burned to death by Drogon. I mean, he was a Lannister after all!

Well, unfortunately for some fans, director of the episode Matt Shakman had this to say:

I did not meet Ed Sheeran…and I think the earlier scene that was so great with Arya meeting those Lannister soldiers, where we humanize what those Lannisters are like, that they’re generous with her, only helps this sequence because it helps you feel for the men who are shaking in terror as their death is upon them…[but] I don’t think literally those soldiers (with Sheeran) were there [in the battle].

So there you have it. I mean, if you want to imagine Sheeran burning to death, you don't need a show to do it for you. You just need a fucked up imagination..

Meanwhile, GAME OF THRONES will premiere its next episode this Sunday.
