Earlier this week there was word spreading across the internet that [REC] 2 would be getting a theatrical release here in the US. At the time we ran with it but let’s be honest… did anybody think it would happen? I know I sure didn’t! Now let’s just say I’m glad I didn’t put money on that…
[REC] 2 is hitting US theaters this July! Well that’s according to a press release from Magnet Releasing! The genre arm of Magnolia Pictures snagged the US rights to the film and are planning on giving it a theatrical run early this July. Plans are for [REC] 2 to debut on Video-on-Demand sometime in June before it’s theatrical run. Magnolia SVP Tom Quinn had the following to say:
“Without a doubt, [REC] 2 is the scariest film of the year. Nobody does horror as terrifying as directors Jaume Ballaguero and Paco Plaza. It’s a great fit for Magnet”
[REC] 2 directors Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza add: ““[REC] 2 comes courtesy of the audiences who infused life into its predecessor. Their enthusiasm and imagination. In some way they’re the ones who created it. It’s their fault.”
[REC] 2 stars Manuela Velasco, Jonathan Mellor and Ariel Casas. It takes place immediately after the first film and follows a SWAT team armed with a video camera as they record all the mayhem inside the doomed apartment building. To celebrate the announcement a bunch of new stills have also popped up! You’ll find those above and below.
