Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to web up $30-40M during opening weekend

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

According to early box office projections, Marvel's SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE stands to web up a significant amount of money during its post-Thanksgiving window. How much, you ask? With respect to some recent number crunching, the action-oriented animated comic book feature is expected to earn $30 million in box office receipts, though there's a chance that it could secure upward of $40 million during its opening weekend bow.

Fans of the biracial web-slinger from Brooklyn have been salivating over the trailers for SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE, with a total of 29 million views and counting for the animation's various trailers, TV spots, and more. Making up a majority of the audience for Mile's first big screen adventure are younger males and older (25) as well as young females under 25. What that tells us is that there's a diverse group of moviegoers and comic fans waiting to see Morales and his spider-compatriots in action. It also helps that the movie looks positively gorgeous, with its variety of animation styles. knee-slapping humor, and sleek character designs.

Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rohman, SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE tells the harrowing tale of when Miles Morales' Spider-Man crosses parallel dimensions and teams up with the Spider-Men of those dimensions to stop a threat to all reality. THE LEGO MOVIE writer Phil Lord wrote the screenplay, meanwhile the highly-anticipated animation stars Shameik Moore as Miles, with Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, Liev Schreiber as The Kingpin, Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir, Mahershala Ali as Aaron Davis, Jake Johnson as Peter Parker / Spider-Man, Kimiko Glenn as Peni Parker, Brian Tyree Henry as Jefferson Davis, John Mulaney as Spider-Ham, and Lily Tomlin as Aunt May.

Here's hoping that SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE performs like gangbusters during its theatrical run, signaling to Marvel that there's room for even more animated films featuring many of their most beloved characters. Personally, I'd like an Agents of G.I.R.L. animated film, featuring Jeremy Whitley's The Unstoppable Wasp a.k.a. Nadia Van Dyne, Lunella Lafayette a.k.a. Moon Girl, Valeria Richards of the Fantastic Four, Viv Vision, and Kamala Khan a.k.a. Ms. Marvel. What characters would you like to see Marvel give the big screen animated treatment? Let us know in the comments section below, and don't forget to check out SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE when it web-swings into theaters on December 14th.
