When Spidey swishes his way back to theaters in May 2011, will he be firing his wrist-jizz right out the screen into your anxiously awaiting eyeballs?
Forbes presented the question of SPIDER-MAN 4 in 3-D to Sony honcho Amy Pascal, who evasively answered: “Could be.” Co-chairman Michael Lynton expounded a bit on the business side: “People are paying a premium to see movies in 3-D and that’s a very big deal. It’s never been done before that someone says you have to pay more to see Spider-Man than a romantic comedy.”
In case you haven’t figured out why the 3-D gimmick is suddenly such a hot deal, studios are scrambling for anything “special” to lure audiences into actual theaters rather than wait for the increasingly swift arrival of the movies on hi-def home video. And as the cost drops and ease of shooting 3-D increases for filmmakers, and more multiplexes convert to digital, more and more “event” movies could require goggles.
Whether we’ll actually see the webbed wonder in an extra dimension is still a question mark, as is the flick’s villain(s).
