Spiral: Darren Lynn Bousman discusses the Saw spin-off in video interview

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The latest entry in the Saw franchise, Spiral: From the Book of Saw, is in theatres right now, and our own Chris Bumbray had the opportunity to talk to director Darren Lynn Bousman about the film. Check out the video interview above to hear Bousman discuss Spiral and what it was like to return to Saw so many years after directing the second, third, and fourth films.

Based on an idea from star / executive producer Chris Rock, Spiral was written by Jigsaw screenwriters Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. The synopsis:

A criminal mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw. Working in the shadow of his father, an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past.  Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.

In addition to Samuel L. Jackson and Max Minghella, Rock is joined in the cast by Nazneen Contractor as a coroner who works closely with Zeke, and Marisol Nichols as his boss, Captain Angie Garza.

Mark Burg and Oren Koules produced Spiral, while Daniel Heffner earned an executive producer credit alongside Rock and Saw creators Leigh Whannell and James Wan.
