Stallone refused to say crude line in Guardians 3

Stallone Guardians

The release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is one of the biggest moments in MCU, building on Phase Five and capping off what most consider to be the best trilogy in the entire franchise. Nabbing Sylvester Stallone for the second Guardians was a major get, as was signing him for the final installment. But getting him to say a line that involved bowel movements? That was a little bit more challenging…

In a joint interview with CinemaBlend, writer/director James Gunn and Star-Lord himself Chris Pratt recalled the exchange between Gunn and Stallone (who plays Ravager Stakar Ogord) on the set of the third Guardians, in which Gunn tried to coax Stallone into saying what would have been one of the more juvenile lines of his career. According to Pratt, Stallone was supposed to say, “‘I gotta go take a shit.’ And [Stallone]  goes, ‘I’m not going to say that, no. What? I gotta go take a shit?’ And [Gunn was] like, ‘You just said it!’” So, yes, Academy Award nominee Sylvester Stallone was tricked into saying he has to take a dump. Certainly with today’s technology the filmmakers could make him deliver the line whether he wanted to or not—or worse, like giving him dialogue from Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot.

In between the Guardians movies, Sylvester Stallone gave a go at another style of superhero movie, headlining the darker Samaritan, which, while it had its moments, didn’t quite have MCU-level support behind it. With a delayed production and a Prime Video push, it didn’t seem like there was much faith put into the movie in the end. Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is looking to be a fitting conclusion to the trilogy and boot The Super Mario Bros. Movie from the top of the box office, with a projected $120 million opening weekend. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 flies into theaters this Friday.
