We’re in the midst of some sort of Star Trek wonderland. The fourth season of Star Trek: Discovery is winding down just as the second season of Star Trek: Picard has begun and we’ve also got the premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds to look forward to; not to mention new seasons of Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Prodigy on the horizon as well. Paramount+ has released the first teaser trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which is focused on Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) as he resumes command of the U.S.S. Enterprise.

The Strange New Worlds teaser finds Captain Pike living in solitude (with a nice depression beard on the go) before he’s called back into action once again. We see a series of striking images as Lt. Commander Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn) says, “No matter how many stars there are in the sky, no matter how many galaxies swirl beyond our own, no matter what the mathematical probabilities or the number of times we say ‘We are not alone in the universe,’ our first visit from the stars is always the province of children’s stories and science fiction… until one day, it isn’t.

In addition to Anson Mount and Rebecca Romijn, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds also stars Ethan Peck as Spock, Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga, Jess Bush as Christine Chapel, Celia Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Erica Ortegas, Bruce Horak as Hemmer, and Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh. It’s been said that Strange New Worlds will tell more episodic stories than Discovery and Picard, which I think a lot of fans will appreciate.

The official synopsis for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds:

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is based on the years Captain Christopher Pike manned the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The series will feature fan favorites from season two of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY: Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. The series will follow Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock and Number One in the years before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will debut on Paramount+ on May 5, 2022.
