Star Wars alum Kelly Marie Tran joins Hulu anthology series Monsterland

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Kelly Marie Tran, who is best known for playing the role of Rose Tico in the STAR WARS franchise, has signed on to star in an episode of the Hulu streaming service's upcoming anthology series Monsterland.

Produced by Annapurna Television, the series was created and written by Mary Laws, who also executive produces the show alongside Babak Anvari, Lucan Toh, Megan Ellison, and Sue Naegle. Ali Krug is co-executive producer.

Monsterland is based on the stories from Nathan Ballingrud's collection NORTH AMERICAN LAKE MONSTERS (you can pick up a copy HERE) and is

full of encounters with mermaids, fallen angels, and other strange beasts and follows broken people driven to desperate acts in an attempt to repair their lives, ultimately showing there is a thin line between man and monster.

The episode Tran will be in is called Iron River, MI. She'll be playing Lauren,

who returns to her small Michigan hometown to be married. She had managed to build a new life for herself after her best friend, Elena, went missing when they were 16.

Kaitlyn Dever, Taylor Schilling, and Mike Colter also have roles in the series.

I've never read a Ballingrud story, but this show does sound interesting, so I look forward to seeing some promotional material to get an idea of what it's going to be like.
