Star Wars: The Last Jedi deleted scene shows more of Finn/Phasma battle

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The home-media release of STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is just several weeks away, and we've already gotten a sneak peek at some of the goodies it has to offer. Our latest look at the STAR WARS flick comes courtesy of The Star Wars Show and shows off a different battle between Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) and Finn (John Boyega). After Phasma has Finn surrounded by stormtroopers, Finn reveals to the other stormtroopers just how quickly Phasma gave up the shield codes for Starkiller Base in THE FORCE AWAKENS. As for what happens next, well, you'll just have to watch and find out.

As for why STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI director Rian Johnson felt the need to switch up how Phasma and Finn's battle played out, Johnson said, "Pacing. Entirely pacing. I really like the little moment of Phasma being caught and getting called out by John, and that little game of chess that they have. But we needed a much more condensed version of that scene, where essentially it’s the same outcome." Despite Phasma seemingly meeting her end in THE LAST JEDI, Gwendoline Christie has said that she hopes that the character will once again return for STAR WARS: EPISODE IX, but doesn't know whether she will at this point.

In truth, I don't know. And that scares and upsets me because I really want to see this character explored. I'm actually very invested in the character now. And that's genuine. That's not just chat. It has opened up a chain of stories and events in my mind about who Phasma is.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI will be released on DVD/Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD on March 27, 2018.
