Holy hell, I had forgotten all about GHOST BROTHERS OF DARKLAND COUNTY. If you’re in the same boat, this is the musical penned by Stephen King and John Mellencamp – news of it broke way back in 2006 (read our first article HERE). Last we got wind of it was last May, when Liv Ullman was unofficially attached to direct the thing. That may no longer be the case, but it doesn’t mean these Ghost Brothers are dead.
According to Atlanta’s Alliance Theater’s official website, GHOST BROTHERS OF DARKLAND COUNTY will debut next spring; APRIL 4 to be exact. It will run until MAY 13th under the direction of Susan V. Booth.
With Music and Lyrics by John Mellencamp and a Book by Stephen King, GHOST BROTHERS breaks down like this: In the tiny town of Lake Belle Reve, Mississippi in 1957, a terrible tragedy took the lives of two brothers and a beautiful young girl. During the next forty years, the events of that night became the stuff of local legend. But legend is often just another word for lie. Joe McCandless knows what really happened; he saw it all. The question is whether or not he can bring himself to tell the truth in time to save his own troubled sons, and whether the ghosts left behind by an act of violence will help him – or tear the McCandless family apart forever.
