Stephen King writing extra things for Apple’s Lisey’s Story series

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot is producing an eight-episode adaptation of Stephen King's LISEY'S STORY for the Apple TV+ streaming service. And today co-star Dane DeHaan (A CURE FOR WELLNESS) talked a bit about how "cool" the upcoming series will be.

He says:

It’s been really great. [King is] on set a lot. He’s very into what we’re doing and the experience. It’s also fun to help to sometimes craft it with him. He’s writing extra things. Pablo Larraín, the director, has a very clear vision, and there’s a real collaboration going on that wouldn’t be possible, otherwise. He’s such a big deal that what he writes is so holy that, in order to really collaborate or change things sometimes, it feels better having him there and having his blessing and knowing that he’s happy with it. It’s been really fun. It seems like we’re making something really cool. I think the director is really cool, the DP (Darius Khondji) is cool, the material is cool, and the other actors are amazing. It’s also definitely something different from what I’ve done before, which is always something that I’m looking for.

For those of you out there that might not be overly familiar with this particular Stephen King novel, here's a rundown on the book via Amazon:

Lisey lost her husband Scott two years ago, after a twenty-five year marriage of profound and sometimes frightening intimacy. Scott was an award-winning, bestselling novelist and a very complicated man. Early in their relationship, before they married, Lisey knew there was a place Scott went—a place that both terrified and healed him, could eat him alive or give him the ideas he needed in order to live. Now it’s Lisey’s turn to face Scott’s demons, to go to that terrifying place known as Boo’ya Moon. What begins as a widow’s effort to sort through the papers of her celebrated husband becomes a nearly fatal journey into the darkness he inhabited.

JACKIE director Pablo Larrain will direct the miniseries, which stars Julianne Moore, Joan Allen, Dane Dehaan, Sung Kang, and Clive Owen.

King, Abrams, and Moore are executive producing the limited series adaptation of King's LISEY'S STORY along with Bad Robot's Ben Stephenson. If you haven't had the joy of reading King's novel yet, you can go ahead and head right over to Amazon today and snag a copy of the book HERE.
