Stephen Norrington off The Crow reboot; Now looking for new director

One project I just can’t seem to get behind is that pesky reboot of THE CROW that’s been floating around. The original is my favorite movie of all time and can easily stand strong today, so why in the hell does it need to be rebooted? There’s no possible way it can be topped so why even bother? Alas the rants and raves of us genre fans can only go so far… The fact is a new CROW flick will undoubtedly make money, so it’s going to happen. But it seems it’s going to happen without Stephen Norrington!

According to the guys over at Comics2Film the director, who’s been attached to THE CROW for two years now, has officially left the project. Apparently there’s a star attached to the project that was stoked to work with Norrington but then turned around and rejected Norrington and scribe Nick Cave’s take for the film. Where does that leave Norrington and Cave? Well out in the cold it seems. All of this stemmed from when Comics2Film asked Norrington about that strange Mark Wahlberg rumor:

“I don’t know about that story but I can tell you I’m no longer involved with The Crow. …. As I had gotten involved explicitly as a writer-director my exit was inevitable. I was bummed. I had developed a genuinely authentic take that respected the source material while moving beyond it, and Nick Cave came in and added more depth. I think the fans would have been pleasantly surprised. …. I will say I think Wahlberg could be cool if they take a gritty blue-collar approach. He’s a truthful actor. I think he could really ground the supernatural stuff.”

So there you have it folks… After years of work on this CROW reboot we’re back to the beginning. Perhaps it’s a sign? Unfortunately now we have to sit and twiddle our thumbs until we get word on who’ll be stepping in to take Norrington’s place. As always as soon as we hear more regarding this CROW reboot we’ll be sure to pass the good word along to all of you!
