Sterling K. Brown will take on The Predator for Shane Black

Sterling K. Brown is the latest actor to join the ensemble cast of director Shane Black's "inventive PREDATOR sequel" THE PREDATOR. Brown is probably best known for his roles on television shows like Army Wives and This Is Us, as well as the limited series The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, in which he played prosecutor Christopher Darden. Brown won a Primetime Emmy for his performance as Darden and was nominated for a Golden Globe.

Brown will co-star with Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, and Keegan-Michael Key in THE PREDATOR. His character is a "government agent who jails Holbrook's ex-Marine character, but later needs his help with the Predators." Despite the title, apparently THE PREDATOR will feature multiple Predators, not just one.

Rhodes and Key are also playing ex-Marines, while Munn's character is a scientist.

There is a persistent rumor that THE PREDATOR will be set in the suburbs, much like ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM (pictured below). Black has denied this, but in the Hollywood Reporter's article about Brown's casting they reiterate that "the setting for the new story is suburbia".

I think the reality may be somewhere in between – the primary setting may not be the suburbs, but some scenes may be set there. Black's co-writer Fred Dekker (with whom he collaborated on THE MONSTER SQUAD thirty years ago) has said that THE PREDATOR isn't just about people getting knocked off one-by-one in one location, it follows "a lot of characters doing a lot of things in a lot of different locations." Including the suburbs?

We'll find out for sure just how much of THE PREDATOR is or isn't set in the suburbs when the film is released on February 9, 2018.
