Steven Yeun & Felicia Day to voice leads in animated feature for comic Chew

Here's something tasty for you to CHEW on tonight: THR has learned an animated version of the John Layman and Rob Guillory comic CHEW is in the works. Jeff Krelitz directed the animated TORCHWOOD: WEB OF LIES and PETER PANZERFAUST, and he will be helming the adaptation from a script by Layman. CHEW is a very funny, but also occasionally dark comic set in a world where bird meat is illegal after millions of people die from a deadly bird flu.

Haven't read Chew? Check out the synopsis for the first volume from Amazon:

Tony Chu is a detective with a secret. A weird secret. Tony Chu is Cibopathic, which means he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. It also means he's a hell of a detective, as long as he doesn't mind nibbling on the corpse of a murder victim to figure out whodunit, and why.

THR is also reporting The Walking Dead's Steven Yeun will voice Tony Chu, and Felicia Day (Supernatural, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, creator of the web series The Guild) will voice Amelia Mintz, Tony's love interest who is a "saboscrivner," a person who can write about food so well the reader feels like they actually tasting it. Yeun and Day are apparently big fans of the comic, so they're probably quite excited to be working on the project.

CHEW won't be hitting theaters though: the producers want the film to have a digital and home release.

Not every comic book needs to be a television series, or a film with a huge budget. Sometimes going small is the best option, and I feel like that's the case with CHEW. Don't get me wrong, I would love a live-action version with a decent budget, but an animated movie also sounds great, especially with the creators developing the adaptation.
