Giant crustaceans attack in Queen Crab, out September 29th

Last Updated on July 22, 2021

The horror genre offers a lot of variety. It has something for everyone, for every taste and mood, a monster for every occasion. I take in a wide range of it, from '80s slashers to the Universal classics, from movies dark and brutal to ones over-the-top and silly. A type of movie I really like to watch from time to time are the old school giant creature features. THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS, IT CAME FROM BENEATH THE SEA, THEM!, TARANTULA, ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS, etc. It's that sort of movie that writer/director Brett Piper is paying homage to with his latest film, QUEEN CRAB.

Described as "a loving, monstrous tribute to the classic days of practical stop-motion animation, evoking the days of Ray Harryhausen creature features", QUEEN CRAB shows what happens when

a meteor crashes into a quiet lake in the remote countryside, awakening a centuries-old beast.  She emerges from the deep and tears through a nearby town and its inhabitants.  The humans must fight for their lives and stop this Queen Crab before she can hatch an army of babies that will overrun the entire world.

Wild Eye Releasing will be setting QUEEN CRAB loose into the world later this month, with a DVD and VOD release scheduled for September 29th. The DVD will include the following special features:

Director's commentary

Special effects featurettes

A behind the scenes featurette

A blooper reel

Trailers

The trailer for QUEEN CRAB can be seen below, and the movie looks like some good old school fun to me. If it appears to be something you would enjoy, the DVD can pre-ordered at this link.
