One of the most fascinating aspects of J.J. Abrams' STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is discovering what's transpired between the end of RETURN OF THE JEDI and the beginning of this film. There were quite a few familiar sights in the form of the Millennium Falcon and some altered Stormtroopers, it looks like the Empire has evolved from their previous iteration.

IGN's Eric Goldman got his hands on the Stormtrooper action figure that will be premiering at this year's San Diego Comic Con, and while we've seen what the figure looks like, we haven't seen the text on the side of the box. Thanks to Goldman, I've transcribed the text for you below, which gives away some interesting tidbits.

Shock troopers clad in white armor first appeared on the galactic stage during the opening battles of the Clone Wars. Clone Trooper armor became iconic almost immediately; its stark white design stood for hope that peace and stability might be restored to a galaxy at war. But this dream of peace died with the Republic, and the Empire that rose to take its place imposed order by any means necessary. Soldiers within the grand army of the Republic were given a new name: Stormtroopers. As these former protectors of galactic peace mercilessly crushed resistance across the galaxy, their white armor came to symbolize oppression and the indomitable power of the Emperor’s will. Yet the tyranny of imperial rule sparked rebellion, and the Stormtrooper legions were scattered in the aftermath of the Empire’s fall. Now, the rise of the First Order ushers in the next chapter in the Stormtrooper’s legacy as a new era of ruthless brutality begins.

I'm actually doing my best to avoid rumors and leaked info regarding THE FORCE AWAKENS (if I can help it), so to see the state of the universe, post-Jedi, really revs my . . . erm, podracer. The last trailer painted a fantastic portrait of a world in a state of decay, as well as our heroes facing some overwhelming odds. It definitely falls in line tonally with the Original Trilogy. As for the First Order, perhaps we'll get some more details at SDCC in a couple of weeks!

The STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS panel will be premiering at SDCC on July 10, while the film will hit theaters on December 18, 2015.
