Stranger Things digs a news broadcast out of the ’80s archives

Stranger Things

The second season of the Netflix series / pop culture phenomenon Stranger Things begins filming this month, building toward an undated 2017 premiere. To help hold us over during the wait for the show's return, Netflix has released a tie-in video that served as sort of a special Halloween treat for fans yesterday.

Presented as being a segment from a news program that aired in the series' setting of Hawkins, Indiana in 1983, the video comes with the following description:

You think you know the 80’s. But then an archival newsreel from 5 WIYZ Hawkins, Indiana is uncovered and you question everything. Like why is Brenda Wood’s hair so totally amazing? Or, whatever happened to that girl Barbara Holland? Just how many Eggos did Eleven eat? The world needs to know!

This news broadcast doesn't really fit in with the Stranger Things timeline – the reporter is addressing viewers on an October night just days after the disappearance of teenager  Barbara Holland, while on the show Barb went missing in early November – but it's a fun two minutes regardless.
