Stranger Things

Netflix is moving forward with an eight-episode series titled Shadow and Bone, which draws inspiration from author Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows series of novels. Behind this series are two people the streaming service has had great success working with before: Stranger Things executive producer Shawn Levy and BIRD BOX screenwriter Eric Heisserer.

Levy will be executive producing Shadow and Bone through his company 21 Laps, alongside Bardugo and Heisserer. Heisserer is writing the series and will serve as showrunner.

Set in a universe that Bardugo created called the Grishaverse, Shadow and Bone has the following synopsis:

In a world cleaved in two by a massive barrier of perpetual darkness, where unnatural creatures feast on human flesh, a young soldier uncovers a power that might finally unite her country. But as she struggles to hone her power, dangerous forces plot against her. Thugs, thieves, assassins and saints are at war now, and it will take more than magic to survive.

Also on board to executive produce the series are Pouya Shahbazian and 21 Laps' Dan Levine, Dan Cohen, and Josh Barry. Heisserer previously worked with 21 Laps on the Denis Villeneuve film ARRIVAL.

I had never heard of Bardugo's novels before this announcement, but it sounds like this series is in good hands. I hope the author's fans will enjoy seeing her work brought to the screen in Shadow and Bone.
