Stranger Things season 3 adds Cary Elwes and Jake Busey

The core cast of the Netflix series Stranger Things are returning for the upcoming third season, the problem is that the creatures from the Upside Down dimension keep whittling down the number of people around them, so the supporting cast has to be replenished with each new season.

Last month we learned that Maya Hawke has joined the show's cast as an "alternative girl" named Robin, while Priah Ferguson, who appeared as the character Lucas's younger sister Erica in season 2, is being promoted to recurring status – and will be joined by "an army of friends".

Now a couple more new characters / potential monster victims have been added into the mix. The only thing we know about these characters are their names and who will be playing them: Cary Elwes (pictured above in SAW) has signed on to play Mayor Kline, while Jake Busey will be taking on the role of a guy named Bruce.

This is good news to me, as Elwes and Busey are fine additions to any cast.

The casting announcement was made by Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer, during a Netflix event in Rome.

The release date for Stranger Things season 3 has not yet been revealed, but it is known that the season will consist of eight episodes and will continue the show's march through the 1980s. This one is set in '85.

Executive produced by the Duffer Brothers, Shawn Levy, Iain Paterson, and Dan Cohen, the third season is currently in production.

In addition to Elwes, Busey, Hawke, and Ferguson, the cast includes Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Cara Buono, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Dacre Montgomery, and Sadie Sink.
