It’s gonna be a long wait for the fifth and final season of the Netflix phenomenon, Stranger Things. However, the creative team is already thinking of the future of the franchise, as well as what may be in store for the characters we’ve grown to know and love. The long-awaited conclusion of the series isn’t scheduled to hit streaming until 2024, but fans have been throwing out theories as to how everything will or anyone will come to an end.

Deadline reports on a panel the Duffer brothers attended at the Netflix Tudum Theater on Sunday. When they were asked what 80s influences would be present for the last season, as season four became influenced by A Nightmare on Elm Street, Ross Duffer had this to say,

[Season] 5, the way we see it, is kind of a culmination of all the seasons, so it’s got a little bit from each. I think that what we’re trying to do is go back to the beginning a little bit, in sort of the tone of 1. But also, scale-wise, it’s more aligned with what 4 is. So, hopefully, it’s got a little bit of everything.”

Matt Duffer would go on to add that “the danger the world is in is now ‘all kind of out in the open’ — not just to our teen heroes from the Indiana town of Hawkins, but to their parents and the rest of their community, as well.”

Shawn Levy, director and executive producer of the series, commented, “The thing about these Duffer brothers is that even though the show has gotten so famous and the characters have gotten so iconic, and they’re so much about the ’80s and the supernatural and the genre, it’s about these people. It’s about these characters. Season 5 is already so clearly taking care of these stories of characters, because that’s always been the lifeblood of Stranger Things.”
