If you haven’t finished watching all seven episodes of Stranger Things season 4, volume 1 by now, you should be warned that there are SPOILERS in the article below.

If you have watched all seven episodes, you know that Vecna, the horrific villain found to be lurking in the Upside Down this season, is played by Jamie Campbell Bower. In the seventh episode, we see exactly how Bower’s character was transformed from a normal-looking person into a monstrous creature. And now Netflix has shared a behind-the-scenes timelapse video that shows what it took for the makeup crew to turn Bower into Vecna. This process took several hours – effects artist Barrie Gower told our friends at Bloody Disgusting that the quickest time they got the application process down to was 6 hours and 21 minutes – but in this video it takes just over 30 seconds.

Stranger Things season 4 has the following synopsis:

It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.
