A little while ago, I dished the dirt on a psychological horror called STRAW MAN. It was not about a killer scarecrow… at least, I don’t think. See, the plot is one of those way out-there, apocalyptic tales with a limited amount of characters—so limited, in fact, that the “main” guy resorts to creating “friends” out of straw just to have some form of companionship. It only gets weirder from there. Check out the full synopsis:

One man, a lone soul is the last of an empty world. To combat the loneliness of isolation he surrounds himself with people made out of straw, hand-crafted and molded from faded memories of friends and family. They offer little in the way of company yet they hold insanity at bay.

This Lone Man is a contradiction, his rambling thoughts battling against his need for structure and routine. In his quest for normality he spends each day teaching pupils, reading to them from the classics as they stare back at him with blank, featureless faces. But when the line between reality and fantasy is blurred by madness his ordered life is sent into a downward spiral.

Why do the straw people stare at him with blind judgment?

What are the children trying to tell him?

Who is the beautiful woman who has shown up out of nowhere… and does she offer salvation or death?

See what I’m saying? There could be some deep, f*cked up insanity within those clumps of straw. We’ve got two new pics from the flick for you (up top and below). One certainly seems lonely and desolate. The other doesn’t. I’ll let you guess which is which.

First-time director Andrew Barker (who co-wrote the script with Garry Charles) already has his cast: Leslie Simpson is playing the “Lone Man” and Axelle Carolyn is playing the “Beautiful Woman”.
