Back in April of 2024, the neo-noir mystery drama TV series Sugar made its debut on Apple TV+ and earned some strong reviews, including an 8/10 review from JoBlo’s own Alex Maidy. Now, the second season of the show is heading for a June 19th premiere, and with that date just a few weeks away, a trailer for Sugar season 2 has dropped online. You can check it out in the embed above.

The eight-episode season will release episodes weekly on Fridays, building up to the finale on August 7.

What is Sugar about?

Created by Mark Protosevich, the first season of the show introduced viewers to John Sugar, an American private investigator on the heels of the mysterious disappearance of Olivia Siegel, the beloved granddaughter of legendary Hollywood producer Jonathan Siegel. As Sugar tries to determine what happened to Olivia, he will also unearth Siegel family secrets; some very recent, others long-buried.

Season 2 will again follow P.I. and cinephile John Sugar as he takes on a new missing persons case, searching for the older brother of an up-and-coming local boxer. As the investigation expands into a sinister, city-wide conspiracy, Sugar must reckon with himself to answer the question — how far will he go to do what’s right?

Colin Farrell stars as John Sugar and is joined in the cast by Jin Ha, Raymond Lee, Tony Dalton, Laura Donnelly, Sasha Calle, and Shea Whigham.

The Hollywood Reporter lets us know that Sam Catlin (Preacher, Breaking Bad) is the showrunner for season 2 and executive produces through his company Short Drive Entertainment. Audrey Chon, Simon Kinberg, Farrell, Scott Greenberg, and Chip Vucelich are also executive producers on the show. Protosevich was the showrunner on the first season. While this is his first television project, he has writing credits on The Cell, Thor, Wolfgang Petersen’s Poseidon, Spike Lee’s Oldboy, and I Am Legend, in addition to unproduced works within the Batman and Jurassic Park franchises. An unproduced script he wrote for Freddy vs. Jason in 2000 can even be found online.
