Supernatural gore flick Superstition hits Blu-ray for first time this spring

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

Director James W. Roberson's SUPERSTITION has an interesting history. Shot in 1982, the movie was shelved for three years before being distributed in 1985 by Frank Moreno and Almi Pictures. Moreno promoted the movie in the same fashion he did for Lucio Fulci's HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY, including a trailer boasting "a sense of humor" and having Brother Theodore ( THE BURBS) do the voice over in order to attract a secondary audience. In the UK, the film was banned during the "video nasty" panic, though it would subsequently be released uncut under the title THE WITCH.

And all of that out of the way, today we have word that this spring Scream Factory will be unleashing the 80s supernatural gory horror film on Blu-ray for the first time! You can check out the cover art below. The reverse cover sleeve will feature alternative art. Unfortunately, extras are in progress and will be announced on a later date. So stay tuned!

Until then, here's the movie's synopsis:

After George Leahy (Larry Pennell) moves with his wife and kids to a large and very old New England house, strange and deadly occurrences begin to happen. Eventually, it is revealed that a vengeful witch haunts the home, and nothing seems to appease the evil spirit. Intent on stopping the carnage, Inspector Sturgess (Albert Salmi) and the Rev. David Thompson (James Houghton) join together to rid the place of the sinister force, but the witch isn't easily vanquished.

The film was directed by James W. Roberson from a screenplay written by Donald G. Thompson based on a story by Michael O. Sajbel, Bret Thompson Plate, and Brad White. Ed Carlin produced and the movie stars James Houghton, Albert Salmi, and Lynn Carlin. Scream Factory will be unleashing the 80s supernatural gory horror film on Blu-ray for the first time on April 16th. We'll let you know when it becomes available for pre-order.
