T4 Back w/ No Arnold

The first two TERMINATOR films were the highlight of my youth. James Cameron created a dark world or action, violence and sci-fi that has since been carbon copied many times over, but with less stellar results. T2 may still be one of my favorite movies of all time. But since then, the franchise has gone down hill, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, it’s going down even harder than we previously thought.

While T3 might have sucked (and it’s of my opinion that it did), it at least stayed within the TERMINATOR universe and had Arnold Schwarzenegger in the T-800 role, as the Skynet factory supposedly makes hundreds of T-800s, and they all look like Ahnuld. Yeah, he’s getting too old for this shit, and watching him play a role he started 20 years ago was laughable at times… and this is where they should just learn to let a dead dog lie.

Rick Sands, MGM chief operating officer, had a chance to talk briefly about the upcoming T4, and I can’t help but feel violated with what he had to say: “Terminator blah blah, not Four. It’s like the ‘Batman’ or ‘Superman’ franchise in that it lends itself to having different actors in the roles.”

As in, Arnold isn’t returning but they plan on making it anyway. The problem with his statement of relating the Terminator to classic DC comic characters is that the Terminator is Arnold! It may be a timeless character, but saying you could fill the shoes of the Terminator with anybody is like saying you could have someone else play ROCKY, or RAMBO instead of Sylvester Stallone. Ugh!

But I’ll get off my soap box, as I may be the only one around who feels the TERMINATOR series should quit while it’s ahead, and if – and only if – both Cameron and Schwarzenegger decide to return together and make another one, would it be OK for a T4. Stick around for more news on the blasphemy that is the fourth TERMINATOR as we hear it!
