Magnolia Home Entertainment’s Magnet Releasing will release 13 ASSASSINS on DVD and Blu-ray on July 5. Special features will include a making-of featurette and a trailer. Both versions also contain a digital copy. The cover art can be viewed below.

Unfortunately, this release will be of the 126-minute international cut, which is missing about 15 minutes of the original Japanese run time. No word on the reasoning behind this, but naturally, some people are upset.

This one may not be a horror flick, a samurai epic with plenty of bloody action from proven filmmaker Takashi Miike (AUDITION, ICHI THE KILLER). It’s written by Daisuke Tengan (AUDITION), as based on the screenplay of the 1963 Japanese film THE THIRTEEN ASSASSINS, which itself is based on a true story. Koji Yakusho, Takayuki Yamada, Hiroki Matsukata and Kazuki Namioka star.

Cult director Takashi Miike delivers a bravado action film set at the end of Japan’s feudal era in which a brave group of elite samurai are enlisted to bring down a sadistic lord and his army to prevent him from ascending to the throne and plunging the country into a wartorn future.
