Just a few months after Shudder finally brought HBO’s legendary horror anthology Tales from the Crypt to streaming, horror fans have another option, and this one won’t cost a subscription. All seven seasons of Tales from the Crypt are now streaming free on Tubi.

The addition makes one of horror television’s most beloved anthology series easier to watch than ever, giving fans the choice between Shudder’s subscription service and Tubi’s free, ad-supported platform.

Why Tales from the Crypt remains a horror classic

Inspired by the EC horror comic books from the 1950s, the TV series Tales from the Crypt ran on HBO for a total of 7 seasons and 93 episodes, starting in 1989 and wrapping up in 1996.

Television viewers got a fright in 1989, when Tales from the Crypt made the transition from EC comic book to TV. Hosted by the Cryptkeeper, each episode of the show offered a new, ghoulish tale for the audience to sink their teeth (or fangs) into. It was such a success that myriad Crypt-inspired spinoffs resulted, including an animated series, several feature films, and seemingly infinite merchandising opportunities. A popular favorite among horror-film fans, Tales from the Crypt also appeals to viewers who love the visceral thrill of jumping out of their seats as terrifying scenes unfold in front of them.

John Kassir provided the voice of the Cryptkeeper.

Richard Donner, David Giler, Walter Hill, Joel Silver, and Robert Zemeckis were the executive producers, and the show featured a long list of notable guest stars, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Hanks, Michael J. Fox, Demi Moore, John Lithgow, Christopher Reeve, Catherine O’Hara, Tim Curry, Brad Pitt, Lea Thompson, Kirk Douglas, Daniel Craig, Ewan McGregor, Steve Buscemi, and a whole lot more.

Horror fans now have two streaming options

The streaming rights for Tales from the Crypt are granted by Tales from the Crypt Holdings, which is controlled by Dark Castle Entertainment, Lauren Shuler Donner, and Walter Hill

With the complete series now available on both Shudder and Tubi, it’s the easiest it’s been in years for longtime fans to revisit the Crypt Keeper, or for newcomers to discover one of the greatest horror anthology series ever made.
