Variety is reporting this morning that Tartan Films has picked up the U.S. distribution rights to Koji Shiraishi’s THE SLIT-MOUTHED WOMAN, which stars Eriko Sato, Haruhiko Katou, and Chiharu Kawai. The flick had a small theatrical run in Japan, and is looking to make it big in the U.S. on DVD this July.

Tartan Asian Extreme is known for their exquisitely f*cked up titles, and has definitely found it’s niche in the market of pimping out some hardcore cinema on DVD for the masses to enjoy. And judging from the title alone, SLIT-MOUTHED falls into their category of Extreme to the max! Check out the brief synopsis: a hideously deformed woman is accused of a gruesome killing spree, the film is based on a well-known folk legend.

When I first read the title, I immediately thought it was a theatrical sequel to Takashi Miike’s MOH episode IMPRINT, as that f*cked up tale included at least one slit-mouthed woman. Lucky (or unlucky) for us, that’s not the case.

Stick around as we wait to see exactly when THE SLIT-MOUTHED WOMAN will be hitting DVD (via The DVD Buzz-Saw), and if you haven’t done so yet, rent Miike’s IMPRINT. It’s f*cked up.
