Tartan USA: closed

A report hit the net last week that should give fans of extreme Asian cinema, including OLDBOY and SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE, some alarm, if not all-out remorse.

According to reports, Tartan USA of Tartan Asian Extreme DVD releases, has been closed. That’s right, closed. In fact, the company closed down so hard, their assets, including their office furniture and the rights to over 100 movies, has been put up for sale by the government, in a ‘State Foreclosure Sale’ in Los Angeles. That’s right, the rights to all their movies are now up for grabs! And their furniture!

Who knew Tartan USA was in such dire straights? Here I thought they were releasing movies left and right (good movies, too), making all sorts of money and living the DVD distributor’s dream. And maybe they were… for a while. Now… now they’ve (somehow) lost it all.

Full details of the ‘why’ they’re being foreclosed on has not been released or announced, but you can check out the public foreclosure sale announcement by clicking HERE. What will become of all those titles? Stay tuned as I’m sure this is not the last we’ve heard about this crazy deal. Bummer for Tartan USA, and bummer for fans of their DVDs… they really put together a fine product.
