Our good friends over at Bloody-Disgusting.com got some skinny from producer Brad Fuller (THE AMITYVILLE HORROR remake) on the status of THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE prequel. Short and sweet, but packed with info. Read on:
As for TCM2 (actually it’s a prequel so maybe it should be -1) we have a draft of the script and are in the process of hiring another writer to expand on the origin elements of the story. We hope to have that draft in in the next two months. Ideally we should be shooting this summer in Austin.
Our intention is to out do ourselves. Since we started the company with Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it holds a special place for us and as such we have no intention of diluting it by churning out bad sequels/or prequels.
Leatherface will be back, and we hope to bring back the entire family, but all that remains to be seen. It is dependant on the script and the actors availability.”
Well, outside of the fact that I’m shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, that they haven’t contacted me to polish the origin story for them, this all sounds like excellent news. I think the prequel route was a very smart one to take with the franchise, so here’s looking forward to the first time little Leatherface dons his Ed Gein-ian head gear.
And why the pic of Stacy Keibler below? Because that photo came up when I did an image search on Leatherface. I don’t know how or why, but great googly-moogly, it’s relevant enough for me!
