Focus Features has just unveiled a very early look at A MONSTER CALLS, the fantasy adventure based on Patrick Ness’ book of the same name. The film comes from THE ORPHANAGE helmer J.A. Bayona (who is currently prepping WORLD WAR Z 2) and stars Liam Neeson, Lewis MacDougall, Toby Kebbell, Felicity Jones and Sigourney Weaver.

If you’re looking for some intense monster action, look elsewhere; this teaser has a decidedly melancholy tone, but ends on a pretty spectacular note.

12-year-old Conor (Lewis MacDougall) attempts to deal with his mother’s (Felicity Jones) illness and the bullying of his classmates by escaping into a fantastical world of monsters and fairy tales that explore courage, loss, and faith.

A MONSTER CALLS opens October 14, 2016.
